On June 2, 2022, the Philadelphia Department of Public Health announced the first case of monkeypox in Philadelphia. Our goal is to provide information about monkeypox without contributing to stigma or fear.
On December 1, 2022, Philadelphia FIGHT held its annual World AIDS Day Prayer Breakfast. We were back in person for the first time since 2019. Under the leadership of Bishop Ernest McNear, the Prayer Breakfast featured an award to Rev. Dr. Calenthia Dowdy for Outstanding Faith Leader of 2022, and a powerful address by Rev. Nick Taliaferro of WURD radio.
Philadelphia FIGHT’s PrEP Team is excited to announce its annual PrEP Week, September 19 – 23. The awareness campaign will include mixers, webinars, and open PrEP walk-in clinic hours at John Bell Health Center and Y-HEP Adolescent and Young Adult Health Center.
Earlier this summer, FIGHT received a $20,000 challenge grant from the Jerome B. Miller Foundation to bolster medical-dental integration at the Pediatrics and Young Adult Medicine Center.

Philadelphia FIGHT and Jane Shull were among those honored at the 25th Annual Jonathan Lax Lecture and Wistar Legacy Awards. Other honorees included Anthony S. Last night Philadelphia police shot and killed Walter Wallace Jr., an African American man with known mental illness who was holding a knife. This happened despite Mr. Wallace’s mother and neighbors trying to tell the police that he was mentally ill, that they knew him and that he would drop the knife. This was an utterly outrageous abuse of power for which there can be no excuse whatsoever.
The Institute for Community Justice will be partnering with the Mann Up Association and the Philadelphia Police Department’s 22nd District to host a Gun BuyBack and Bucks for Bullets event on Saturday, October 24th.
