October 11th is recognized as “National Coming Out Day” to promote a safe world for LGBTQ individuals to live truthfully and openly. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the observance, being birthed after the Second National March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights. Annually since 2008, Temple University has hosted National Coming Out Week. This year, the theme is “X” as it embodies intersectionality, gender inclusion, and represents the 10th year anniversary of the tradition (X is 10 in Roman numerals).
