The Wistar Institute and Philadelphia FIGHT have collaborated for over 10 years. The Wistar Institute’s HIV-1 partnership program provides access to information and opportunities for direct involvement in basic immunotherapy research for a patient population of over 4,000 individuals with HIV/AIDS in the Philadelphia area. This partnership, which is the first of its kind, encourages people living with HIV/AIDS to participate in research, not just by donating their blood, but also by learning about the research. Over 2,000 people living with HIV have participated in Wistar/FIGHT’s research over the past five years.
The Wistar Institute is an independent nonprofit biomedical research institution dedicated to discovering the causes and cures for major diseases, including cancer, cardiovascular disease, autoimmune disorders, and infectious diseases. For more information, visit the Wistar Institute website
