Working Together to Prevent Suicide

Annually, September 10th is recognized as World Suicide Prevention Day. Every year, suicide remains one of the top causes of death globally for people of all ages. Suicide is the result of a convergence of genetic, psychological, social, and cultural and other risk factors, sometimes combined with experiences of trauma and loss. You can make a difference by raising awareness, educating yourself and others about warning signs for suicide, question stigma, and show compassion for those with suicidal ideation. Interventions must be incorporated at multiple levels (individual, community, and policy) to create more effective prevention efforts. This year’s theme for World Suicide Prevention Day is “Working Together to Prevent Suicide”, as collaboration is the most essential ingredient for effective global suicide prevention.
