“A Perspective on Khadijah The Rebel”

Khadijah the Rebel is a reader, journal and coloring book that deals with the themes of self-advocacy, social justice, and mass incarceration for children.

Here is a brief synopsis:

Khadijah, a tenacious and fiercely protective young lady, is often faced with dilemmas. This time. her best friend needs her help dealing with the impact of Incarceration! How can she support Dee while keeping herself out of trouble with her father and her teacher? In this interactive coloring/workbook, using original coloring art from Africa, young people will go on a journey of self-discovery alongside Khadijah and explore how regardless of age they themselves have the power to make a difference and affect change, especially as a justice advocate.

Bio

Connie Grier is the Founder of The RESPECT Alliance, a non-profit established in 2011 with a focus on effective mentoring, parental engagement at home and school, and social justice issues. The RESPECT Alliance has for the last 8 years served directly in correctional facilities and on  organizational boards for youth and adults in the areas of education, empowerment and redemption. Our Founder advocates for justice and educates society on the realities of the criminal justice system, the school to prison pipeline, and reentry.
