Discover the critical role of the Philadelphia Post Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) hotline in preventing HIV and ensuring timely medical intervention. This panel discussion featuring healthcare providers and navigators from the Department of Health and Penn Medicine, will shed light on the Philadelphia PEP COE (Center of Excellence). During this session, we will explore the comprehensive services provided by the PEP COE team. This panel discussion offers a unique opportunity to learn about the Philadelphia PEP COE from the perspectives of dedicated providers and navigators. Gain insights into their experiences, challenges, and success stories in empowering individuals to take control of their HIV prevention and care.

Whether you are a healthcare professional, community advocate, or an individual interested in learning more about HIV prevention, this session will equip you with valuable knowledge and resources.

Workshop Objective:

1. Understand the PEP hotline workflow.
2. Meet some of the individuals who staff the hotline and clinic. 
3. Learn about the barriers and successes throughout the past year of the PEP COE

Presenters

Jillian Baron, MD, MPH 

Medical Director, Penn Presbyterian Infectious Disease Clinic 

Assistant Professor of Medicine in Infectious Diseases Division at the University of Pennsylvania

Jillian T Baron, MD, MPH is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Infectious Diseases Division of the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Baron obtained a Medical Degree from Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and a Master’s in Public Health from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. She is the medical director for the Penn Presbyterian Infectious Clinic and cares with a focus on HIV and general infectious diseases. She serves as the medical director for many of the clinic Ending the HIV Epidemic programs including HIV testing in the emergency room, linkage to care, and immediate access to HIV prevention including Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis and Post Exposure Prophylaxis.

Helen Koenig, MD, MPH

Philadelphia FIGHT, Philadelphia, PA

Dr. Koenig is a Professor of Clinical Medicine in the Infectious Diseases division at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where she serves as Medical Director of the MacGregor Infection Medicine & Travel Program and cares for primarily patients living with HIV. She also serves as the Medical Director of the PrEP program at Philadelphia FIGHT, an AIDS service organization in Philadelphia. She has received multiple grants looking at objective measures of adherence to PrEP, a SPNS grant to improved access to HIV prevention and treatment for young men of color who have sex with men using social media, and she is currently co-PI of a grant to develop a PEP Center of Excellence in Philadelphia.

Stephanie Josephson, LCSW

Penn Medicine

PEP COE Navigator 

Stephanie Josephson is a licensed clinical social worker, and PEP Navigator for the PEP COE. She has over 20 years of experience working in HIV service organizations and behavioral research. Stephanie is excited to be collaborating with both Penn Presbyterian and HUP/PCAM as an HIV Prevention Navigator.

Emily McNamara, MPH

Philadelphia Department of Public Health

Emily McNamara works as a Project Coordinator for the Division of HIV Health (DHH) within the Philadelphia Department of Public Health. As a member of DHH’s prevention team, Emily works to ensure successful implementation of programs including low-threshold sexual health service sites, status neutral testing, and the nPEP Center of Excellence (COE). In her role, Emily provides technical assistance and project support to sub-recipients of federal Ending the HIV Epidemic funds to improve HIV care outcomes.  

Jordan Myers, MPH, CHES

Penn Medicine

HIV Prevention Coordinator

Jordan Myers is the HIV Prevention Coordinator for the PEP and PrEP Centers of Excellence. He is passionate about addressing HIV prevention and stigma throughout the community. Jordan works directly with patients, providers, and pharmacies to ensure everyone has equal access to prevention medications.
