Instructions for taking Antibiotics

You have been prescribed antibiotics for your tooth/gum infection or to prevent tooth/gum infection. Please read and follow these instructions for your health and safety.

Take your prescribed antibiotics EXACTLY AS DIRECTED, preferably with food, until you have finished it. DO NOT stop taking antibiotics just because you feel better – it is important to take the whole course.  If it is within your diet, consider having yogurt or another pro-biotic to help your gut bacteria stay healthy while taking antibiotics.

DO NOT take antibiotics if you have previously had an allergic reaction to these or similar antibiotics. If you get a rash, start to swell, or have difficulty breathing, stop taking the antibiotic and seek medical attention immediately – you may be experiencing an allergic reaction, which can be life threatening.

If you get severe watery diarrhea, abdominal cramping, fever, or blood in your stool, stop taking the antibiotic and seek medical attention. DO NOT take over the counter anti-diarrhea medication – you may be experiencing a type of infection which can be life threatening. However, slightly loose stools are a normal side effect of antibiotic medication. Make sure you are drinking plenty of water to stay hydrated. If you have previously had diarrhea while taking antibiotics consider taking probiotics at the same time to help prevent this side effect.
