About Evan Meduna

Evan Meduna (They/He), MSW, is the Youth TEACH Manager and joined FIGHT in January of 2022. They have 5 years of experience across the HIV continuum of care. Evan’s work is informed by critical race theory, intersectionality, and empowerment theory with special interests in community building, restorative and transformative justice, and community education. Evan is originally from Omaha, Nebraska, and moved to Philadelphia in hopes of pursuing more work within the field of HIV care and to better understand a city with more robust HIV care systems. Evan is committed to building upon the foundation of the TEACH Program at Philadelphia FIGHT to produce impactful community education for students to empower themselves and their communities with education from the classroom. Evan firmly believes in the power of people and their ability to cultivate meaningful relationships inside the classroom and out in the community.

Evan received their BSSW from the University of Nebraska at Omaha with a minor in LGBTQ+ studies. Their thesis centered on HIV care provider relationships in rural areas. In this, Evan noted the power of creating community for those living with HIV in rural communities as a vital piece to the success of their health and their ability to thrive. Evan received their MSW from West Chester University, and assisted in co-authoring research relating to health provider attitudes and beliefs about sexuality and intimacy. In addition, they were a former Project TEACH intern, and they assisted in the transition from in person to online formatting of TEACH during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In Evan’s free time, they are taking care of their plants, building terrariums, photography, cooking with friends and family, gaming (especially Nintendo games), and taking the time to enjoy walks around their neighborhood.
