Philadelphia FIGHT will present the Sixth Annual World AIDS Day Prayer Breakfast on Monday, December 1, 2014 from 8 to 10 a.m. at the DoubleTree by Hilton, 237 S. Broad St, Philadelphia.
The keynote speaker will be Rev. Dr. Leslie D. Callahan from St. Paul’s Baptist Church. The Philadelphia FIGHT Gospel Choir and the VOICES of Philadelphia FIGHT Choral Ensemble will offer prayer and inspiration in song.
Every year, the 1st of December is commemorated as World AIDS Day. People and communities around the world dedicate the day to activities and events to cherish the memories of those who battled the disease, and to celebrate progress achieved in the global response to HIV.
People of faith and faith-based organizations have been at the forefront of the response to HIV and AIDS since the early 1980s, by engaging in practical health care, social and emotional support, pastoral care and advocacy with and for those living with the virus, to eliminate stigma and discrimination and to promote access to treatment for all those living with HIV.
Each year in Philadelphia people of many faith traditions come together to offer reflections and prayers for those who live with the virus, help for those at risk, hope for a cure, and most of all, a world without AIDS. We will also acknowledge in absentia FIGHT’s Goodwill Ambassador and Regional Organizing Coordinator of the Positive Women’s Network – USA Waheedah Shabazz-El, who will be receiving the D. Rick Britt Award from the University of Pennsylvania’s Center for AIDS Research Community Advisory Board.
