I am a fairly recent release from the Wisconsin Department of Corrections after a four year bid at five different facilities. I’ve lived, worked and made a “household” with the other men around me. Some were going home soon, others would be seeing me for a while more. When it was finally my time to go, I thought I’d be done with the entire DOC and its symptoms. My piece is an artistic view of the prison, and how it carries itself, so silently, so deceptively, that you don’t even realize you’re still in that cycle… and will be for a long, long time. As of today, I have eight years until I’m completely “free” and, by then, I’ll most likely have done something like drop a piece of gum on the sidewalk.
