Clinica Bienestar

In partnership with Prevention Point Philadelphia and the Norris Square Civic Association, Clinica Bienestar (Well Being Services), is one of the city’s first Spanish-speaking HIV clinics. The primary care clinic is supported by the extensive medical, case management and social services of Philadelphia FIGHT.

Clinica Bienestar is a comprehensive HIV primary care clinic founded in 2012 through a collaboration between Philadelphia FIGHT and Prevention Point Philadelphia (PPP). Clinica Bienestar is located within PPP’s Harm Reduction Services Center at 2913-15 Kensington Avenue. Clinica Bienestar staff are especially skilled in providing services to the Puerto Rican population in Philadelphia who are either actively using or have a history of using injection drugs and have received inconsistent HIV medical care. Dr. Laura Bamford, Medical Director of Clinica Bienestar and case management and outreach staff are bilingual in English and in Spanish. Clinica Bienestar provides HIV primary care services, Hepatitis C treatment, case management, harm reduction services, linkage to drug and alcohol treatment programs, and on site medication assisted treatment for opiate use disorder. Clinic hours are Wednesdays between 9am and 4pm (walk-ins welcome).

Spotlight On

Karam Mounzer, MD

Dr. Mounzer identified two major gaps in the care of patients with HIV/hepatitis C (HCV) co-infection, and the complexity of multidrug-resistant HIV treatment. He is involved with many clinical trials focusing on drug development and better understanding of HIV immunopathogenesis with the Wistar Institute. He is involved in teaching and mentoring fellows, residents and students.

June 2017 is the 23rd year that Philadelphia FIGHT hosted AIDS Education Month (AEM), a series of events throughout Philadelphia to increase AIDS awareness and to bring people together to find strategies to combat the virus.
