Philadelphia FIGHT is a comprehensive health services organization providing state of the art, culturally competent primary medical care, consumer education, advocacy, social services, outreach to people in need, including those living with HIV and those at high risk, with access to the most advanced clinical research. Our goal and hope is to end the AIDS epidemic within the lifetime of those currently living with HIV.
The Development & Communications Intern (“Intern”) is a non-paid internship position in the Administration Department of Philadelphia FIGHT. Interns matriculated in a related program are welcome to pursue this opportunity for school credit. The internship is for a minimum of 10 to 15 hours a week, with some flexibility, depending on the Intern’s school schedule.
The Intern provides a support role in conducting research for federal and foundation grant opportunities; assists team members in creating and implementing a strategy and infrastructure for volunteer mobilization; generates content for social media; provides support to FIGHT-related events; and works closely with team members in soliciting advertisements, sponsorships, product donations and grants for various FIGHT events.
Tasks and Responsibilities
Content Development: Assist in writing and editing content related to the FIGHT email and print newsletters, social media sites, and other key promotional publications.
Organizational Representation: Attend external events and represent FIGHT at information tables. Solicit for and coordinate volunteers for these events.
Volunteer Mobilization: Provide support to team members in developing and implementing a plan for recruiting, placing, and retaining volunteers. Develop communications and scheduling plans for volunteers. Develop a volunteer orientation and assist with coordinating thank you events.
There will be other tasks assigned by the Chief Strategy Officer and Director of Development and Communications that are consistent with the responsibilities of this position.
Supervision and Key Relationships:
The Development and Communications Intern is directly supervised by the Director of Development & Communications. The internship is part of the Development & Communications Team, which resides in the Administration Department at Philadelphia FIGHT. The Development & Communications Team is supervised by the Chief Strategy Officer. The Development and Communications Intern works closely with the Communications Associate and Development Associate.
The Development and Communications Intern will be enrolled in either an undergraduate or graduate program in a related field including Communications, English, Marketing or Journalism. Knowledge of HIV/AIDS and/or public health is preferred but not required. The ideal candidate for this position will have a minimum of 3 months of experience interning or working in a non-profit or communications/marketing setting. The candidate must be self-motivated, technology savvy and possess strong verbal and written communications skills. The desire for professional networking and a working knowledge of website content management, mobile apps, and social media are preferred.
Development and communications interns receive valuable hands-on experience writing, editing, working on photo shoots, video shoots, event planning, social media campaigns and volunteer projects. Interns will receive one-on-one training and supervision from Philadelphia FIGHT’s team of Development and Communications professionals.
