Bio

Dr. Calenthia Dowdy has been the Director of Faith Initiatives at Philadelphia FIGHT since 2013. Her work with FIGHT has focused on building partnerships between FIGHT and the city’s faith communities in order to educate and eradicate stigma and misinformation about HIV/AIDS. Dowdy teaches a course called “Faithful TEACH” open to Philadelphia’s faith leaders, with the objective of exploring the connections between spirituality and healing while also building compassion and understanding, and better equipping communities to serve and be in authentic relationship with people living with HIV/AIDS.  Dowdy earned a Ph.D. in cultural anthropologist and has taught on college faculties in the city, and is a workshop facilitator for diversity and anti-oppression trainings with the Roots of Justice training team.

Karam Mounzer, MD

Dr. Mounzer identified two major gaps in the care of patients with HIV/hepatitis C (HCV) co-infection, and the complexity of multidrug-resistant HIV treatment. He is involved with many clinical trials focusing on drug development and better understanding of HIV immunopathogenesis with the Wistar Institute. He is involved in teaching and mentoring.

Dr. Mario Cruz

Dr. Mario CruzDr. Cruz is a board certified pediatrician who serves as the Medical Director for our Pediatrics and Adolescent Health Center. He has presented and/or published in the fields of community violence and domestic violence prevention, quality improvement, behavioral health, curriculum development and mentorship. In 2019 he received the Greater Philadelphia Social Innovation Award for Innovations in Healthcare.
