Living with HIV over the age 50 comes with its fair of challenges and sucess. This webinar will highlight the resiliency of being 50 living with HIV and offer resources to expand systems of support.

Objectives

  • Learn how to live healthy with HIV while you age. 2. Learn of various resources to support your mental health and support system.

Jeffery Haskins

Philadelphia FIGHT

Jeffery A Haskins graduated from Howard and Columbia University with a bachelor’s in Accounting and Masters in Theatre Management. He worked for the Justice Department as an Auditor in the Attorney Generals Office. Managing Director of Rainbow Repertory in New York. He worked for Comhar as a Mental Health Counselor and Phjladelphia FIGHT as Deputy Director of the Project TEACH Program at Philadphia FIGHT Community Health Center. Jeffery is retired and starting the Haskins Consultant Firm.

 

Steven Johnson

Philadelphia FIGHT

Mr. Steven Johnson is an African American man, who was born in Brooklyn, New York. He was raised in North Philadelphia, where he attended Benjamin Franklin High School. There he received awards for Math, English and wrote an essay on Capital Punishment that won 2nd place in the city of Philadelphia. The many years that followed, he struggled with drugs, incarceration and lived a reckless life. As a result, he found out he was HIV+. He did not give up. He graduated from Project TEACH, where he received education about HIV and diverse STIs. He emerged as a Peer Educator where he delivered over 3,000 presentations annually at various agencies in Philadelphia. He attended AACO trainings for HIV 101 and HIV Test & Link. Where he also received his Testing & Counseling Certification. Mr. Johnson is currently employed by Philadelphia FIGHT as the Coordinator for its signature program called TEACH Outside. This program is for people living with HIV and who have been incarcerated or detained. As a person living with HIV and a formerly incarcerated individual, Mr. Johnson first hand knows what it takes to turn your life around. He is the founder of The Positive Man, a support group for HIV+heterosexual men. The group engages in everyday life issues and provides resources on education, treatment, prevention, testing, and have sessions for self-advocacy. Steven is on the BEAT-HIV Martin Delaney Collaboratory CAB and he is on the NHAAN Cab for NMAC. Mr. Johnson is also one of the overseers for Project Teach Alumni.
