Access to dental healthcare is challenging for a number of reasons, including the limited number of dentists who accept Medicaid or patients otherwise unable to pay for dental care, limited appointment availability for providers who do accept Medicaid or offer sliding scales, limited coverage for rehabilitative procedures including root canals, crowns, and dentures, and patients with a history of dental trauma and dental fear.
