Employer: The AIDS Library
Location: Philadelphia, PA
Hours: Hours Weekly: 2-3, any time M-F 10-5, and Thursday 1-7
Duties
Under the guidance of the Collection Management Librarian, assist in developing the open source integrated library system (ILS) Koha. The main task is to develop functionality for the end user interface of the Library’s online public access catalog (OPAC).
Qualifications
Required
- Current student in LIS or IS master’s degree program
- Basic coursework in cataloging (AACR2/MARC)
- Self motivated, organized, detail oriented; excellent database and Internet search skills
Preferred
- Experience with Koha or another ILS
- Knowledge of PERL or MySQL
- Familiarity with MARC, MARCXML, Dublin Core, Z39.50 protocol
Desirable
- Background knowledge of HIV/AIDS issues, cultural and medical
This position is ideal for a student looking to gain real-world experience in systems librarianship. Internship can be used for practicum credit.

The AIDS Library is a small medical library at Philadelphia’s largest AIDS Service Organization, Philadelphia FIGHT. It services health care providers, consumers, teenagers, activists, and social workers. We strive to provide consistent, high quality information and referral services to our community.
AIDS Library staff is responsible for the creation and maintenance of statistical gathering and reporting forms as dictated by organizational need. It is the policy of Philadelphia FIGHT that all business and patient information be treated as confidential material.
