Why did you join FIGHT?

FIGHT’s mission providing quality comprehensive HIV/AIDS care and support with an explicit grounding in social justice—embodies all of the reasons I switched careers to become a nurse. All of my adult life, I have engaged in a wide range of activist work around a multitude of economic and social justice campaigns, but FIGHT has offered me the chance to really apply those values while simultaneously providing direct services to people.

Explain what you do at FIGHT.

I am the nurse in the Jonathan Lax Treatment Center. I triage all of our walk-in patients, as well as assisting the providers with in-office procedures. I help to coordinate our Hepatitis C treatment program. I engage in a lot of patient education, especially around Hepatitis C and diabetes. Finally, I help to coordinate with other practices and hospitals to ensure that our patients receive quality specialist care.

Working for an AIDS service organization can be hard. What keeps you motivated?

First and foremost, the strong relationships I’m building with our patients provides me with the strongest possible motivation to endure the challenges of ASO work. It is also great to be surrounded by such passionate co-workers!
