Because of FIGHT's unyielding commitment to social justice work. FIGHT is a rarity in the social service field, because all the incredible direct services we provide are grounded in activism.
I am the Director of FIGHT’s Institute for Community Justice, which houses all of FIGHT’s prison related services. I oversee our suite of programs, including our treatment education program for former prisoners with HIV, Project TEACH Outside, a recidivism and HIV prevention research study in the intake housing units of the jails called TEACH In, TEACH Out (TITO), the Enhancing Linkages Project, which serves people living with HIV in the Philadelphia Prison System, our community organizing project, the Support Center for Prison Advocacy, our quarterly national newsletter, Prison Health News and ICJ’s Reentry Support Center, which serves as a hub for information and support services for folks coming home from prisons and jails. I also coordinate the annual Beyond the Walls: Prison Health Care and Reentry Summit as a part of AIDS Education Month.
The strength and resilience of the people we serve is an incredible motivator. Every day we work with people who are faced with monumental challenges, and who find new ways to rise above the barriers in their way and build vibrant, successful lives for themselves. The tenacity, passion and resourcefulness of my staff encourages me to work even harder to make sure that they have the resources and support they need to do their jobs. Their ability to navigate service systems, deliver critical and empowering educational messages and support our clients is truly incredible.
